LASER and IPL HAIR REMOVAL
IPL/Laser system offers a safe, long-term solution to unwanted hair for both men and women. Laser systems use light to destroy the hair root thus preventing re-growth, whilst the skin remains unharmed. The result of hair removal treatment with the light assisted technology depends on the experience of the medical practitioner and the quality of the Laser/IPL machine.

The success of treatment depends on the selective absorption of light by the pigment in the hair. Therefore, it is essential that the hair is darker than the skin. Our machine can remove hair of almost any colour for anybody but people with very dark skin. Grey/White hair have no melanin so are not suitable for the treatment. Large areas can be treated in a single session and a number of different areas can be treated. The procedure is relatively painless, and when compared to traditional methods (waxing, threading, sugaring) are far more advanced and “permanent”.
Before any IPL or Laser treatment a full consultation and a test patch is performed to; confirm suitability for treatment, revel any side effects and allow the patient to experience what the treatment feels like. A course of several treatments is required for the best results.
How is the treatment carried out?
For IPL treatment a thin layer of chilled gel is applied to help guide the light. The applicator of a treatment head is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released. It targets many follicles simultaneously. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area of skin and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated. Following the treatment, the practitioner cools the treated area and applys some aloe vera gel to sooth the skin.
What does Laser/IPL hair removal feel like?
Treatment sensation varies from person to person but is often described as “a flick of an elastic band”. Typically, no anaesthesia is required and most patients describe the discomfort as moderate and tolerable.
What will I see after hair removal treatment?
Following IPL treatment, the hair follicles are damaged by the heat but the hairs remain in the follicles. The dead hairs shed after 1-3 weeks as the epidermis renews. During this period the hairs will seem to “grow” as they pushed out by the new epidermis. Unlike IPL, Laser treatment instantly removes some hair follicles from the skin. The outcome of both treatments is the same.
Are there any side effects?
The skin may be red immediately after treatment and the skin around hair follicles may be swollen and bumpy but this usually subsides within a few hours. Prolonged side effects are rare but may include; a small blister, temporary lightening or darkening of the skin, scarring. Normally people have no changes to their skin and do not feel any discomfort as a soon as treatment finishes.
How many hair removal treatments are necessary?
Only hairs that is actively growing will be permanently damaged, therefore multiple treatments are needed. Your practitioner will explain this process at your initial consultation. Treatment is conducted every 4-8 weeks, depending on the area treated, until a satisfactory result is seen. The required number of treatments varies, but typically 6 or more treatments are needed for optimum results.
How long does each treatment take?
Treatments can take as little as 5 min to an hour, depending on the size of the treated area. Top Lip takes 5 min, Full legs + bikini takes around an hour, bikini and underarms takes 15-20 min.
Do I need a consultation?
You do not need to book a separate consultation for either IPL or Laser hair removal treatment, but could have one if you wish to. In this case, the treatment may not be done on the same visit, simply because more time will be required. There will be no hustle or pushing into buying anything at your first consultation. Its purpose is for our practitioner to provide necessary knowledge and enhance your understanding of the treatment and the technology we use.
We do not treat children under the age of 16 at our clinic. Children at 16 or older will need to bring a referral letter from their GP.
