Why do I have dark circles?

There is a suggestion that this skin  is 10 times thinner than the rest of the skin on the face. Dark circles treatment is one of our most popular therapies.

Our customers, who look for dark circles treatments, usually comment on tired or drained look. They believe that by improving those circles they would look younger. Subsequently, they believe that other facial features may improved as a reflection of the treatment. This is not always achievable.

Some anatomy…

Facial fat plays a vital role in the appearance of the face. The face appears deflated and concave with age because we loose this fat. The area under the eyes suffer most. Losing the fat pads under the eyes protrude the veins that supply blood to the ocular area. With age, they contribute to the appearance of dark shadows.

However, there are other reasons why someone will have dark circles under their eyes.

What causes dark circles.

We can state that from our experience and observation there are two main reasons for the dark circles appearance;

  1. Heredetery hiperpigmented skin which is usually noticed in darker skin types people
  2. The natural ageing process which leads to thinning of the skin and the fat loss making your blood vessels show through more.

Hyperpigmentation occurs due to ethnical heredity or when the cells that contain melanin are damaged or over-stimulated. This forces them to produce more melanin than necessary. Normally, these people would very rarely burn when exposed to sun. Therefore, they are not bothered about sun avoidance or protection. Subsequently,  it leads to excessive darkening of the skin.

It also can be a reflection of general health conditions such as circulation problems, diabetes or vitamin deficiency.

Unfortunately, treatment options for hyper-pigmentation are limited to gentle chemical peeling, skin Camouflage, PRP (platelets rich plasma complex) and medicated lightening cream. Results are never 100% guaranteed and the best maintenance regime is protecting from sun rays and wearing SPF 50+ 365 days of the year.

When will I get dark circles?

This process may start during the mid-30s. Usually, the appearance of a dark circle worsens by early-40s due to volume loss under the eye, loss of skin elasticity and facial bones ageing process.

Can I avoid having dark circles?

It is very difficult to prevent the appearance of shadows under the eyes.  Nonetheless, you can avoid its early development by leading a healthy life style, avoiding poor diet, eye rubbing, dehydration and late nights.

What treatments for dark circles caused by ageing are available?

This method is the cheapest option. Application of Skin Camouflage involves 2 products; the skin matching cream and the setting powder.

skin camouflage treatment

If someone has hyperpigmentation we can create a camouflage effect. We will match the appropriate colour to their skin and teach them how to apply it correctly. The technique will allow you to wear the Skin Camoflage for a few days and you will be able to swim with it on.

Next and more advanced dark circles treatment option is PRP (platelet reach plasma). This method uses the stem cells to regenerate the skin .

PRP dark circles treatment

We offer PRP therapy in conjunction with Dermapen (microneedling) and have consistently seeing good results from this combination.

DERMAPEN is a controlled skin damage treatment. It is the best method of Mesotherapy.  This therapy addresses both issues; delivering the product into the skin and triggering collagen re-modelling process.

The depth of the treatment is precise and shallow because skin around the eyes is very delicate and requires gentle handling. After the treatment, the skin will look intense pink and will be slightly swollen. This side effects subside within 24-72 hours and from our customers’ experience, it does not cause any discomfort. The difference within the skin can be seen fairly quickly. It not only makes the skin glow, but also delivers natural plumpness and radiance.

Additionally to PRP therapy, Dermapen causes micro-trauma which stimulates  collagen and tightens the skin.

Is it safe?

The plasma uses your own body’s growth factors. It is 100% safe and very effective. There can be no rejection, infection or allergic reactions. Improvement in skin texture, hydration, skin elasticity, volume of fat and general rejuvenation effect can be seen when it’s used under the eyes.

The only complication with PRP therapy is bruising, but it is usually very insignificant and disappears within 3-4 days.

Normally it would take about six weeks to see the best results. It is not a treatment that works instantly but it works beautifully. You just need to be patient.

Bio-revitalisation is an injectable method allowing to see the skin improve quickly, especially its hydration. The product is injected in the top layer of the skin leaving a bubble effect on it for a few hours.

The injection of hyaluronic acid triggers the stimulation of collagen regeneration and skin hydration. In addition, the production of own hyaluronic acid is stimulated. Thus, the skin is not only moisturised, but also their properties are restored.  Strong lifting is obtained due to newly formed derma fibres. Therefore, by performing bio-revitalisation with hyaluronic acid preparations, after the minimum number of procedures (3 procedures with the pause of 3-4 weeks) it is possible to receive long-term and yet improved skin appearance (due to induced collagen synthesis). Patients reviews of bio-revitalisation procedure as a dark circles treatment are only positive.

Dark circles or hollows under the eyes can be caused by absence of subcutaneous fat, negative vector of underlying face structure and thin, translucent skin. A genuine tea trough area (the hollow under the eye) does not contain any fat and therefore veins and muscle structure may become visible through this thin skin with age. Tea Trough treatment with Dermal Filler is a very effective method of elevating thunking skin and achieving a smooth healthy appearance of this delicate area but it is not a perfect treatment for everyone.

What filler do we use

We practice – “Safety First”.  We use THE ONLY LICENSED FILLER for Periorbital (under eye) rejuvenation – TEOSYAL Redensity II. The products is hydroscopic (pre-soaked). This means the there is not much swelling following the procedure. You can return to your normal day activities straight away.

Teosyal Redensity ll is infused with amino acids, antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins. Therefore, it will continues to rejuvenate the skin over time for maximum long-term results.

Is one treatment enough?

Typically, one dark circles treatment may be enough but from our experience people who have very pronounced hollows under eyes benefit greatly from the second treatment which we recommend in 2 months after the first session.

after 2 treatments

This advanced Laser treatment is another great option for under eye delicate area. Our medical grade system is more intense than other types of non-ablative lasers.

Medical Grade ablative resurfacing fractional laser produces inflammation and heat deep in the skin by depositing multiple microscopic laser beams. Subsequently, the heat spreads into the dermis and stimulates our fibroblasts. In response, the skin initiates a natural wound healing process that induces its tightness and lift.

The treatment is very tolerable, almost painless. The skin will feel ‘sunburnt’ and look slightly red post treatment.

This treatment is ideal for deep lines and wrinkles under the eyes or moderate eye bags tightening.

Unfortunately, the signs of aging are inevitable, no matter how well you take care of yourself. It is the loss of fat, collagen and skin elasticity cause lines and wrinkles to become more apparent. They are, however, treatable and can be improved. We can restore what the ageing process has taken away safely and efficiently.
