There is a considerable variation in types and degrees of acne scarring.

For many years, the only treatment options for acne scars were much too invasive and produced limited results. Better options became available in recent years following advances in medical technologies. Today, we are able to offer these treatments at the Laserina Clinic. These therapies significantly improve shallow and mild acne scarring and have short downtime.

Type of acne scarring:

Acne scars may appear on your skin in different shapes and forms:

  • fresh or old
  • flat, depressed or elevated
  • localised or generalised
  • red, white, normal skin colour or pigmented
  • look worse due to volume loss under the skin due to ageing

All of these factors help us determine the course of the treatment. The only certain method of preventing or limiting the extent of acne scarring is treating acne as early as possible, and for as long as necessary.

IPL acne scarring treatment

Topical and oral medicines are good first line treatments, but they often fail and do not work for everybody. In recent years a number of more effective treatments have become available. In comparison to alternative treatments, the IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) acne scarring treatment provides longer-term benefits safely and effectively. This therapy is also more affordable than some other effective options.

In cases where Acne is still active, IPL destroys bacteria and reduces the inflammation of the sebaceous gland, limiting its activity. This can result in long term remission of acne. If Acne is already inactive, IPL photo-rejuvenation can be used to improve overall texture of the skin by stimulating growth of new collagen and elastin. The appearance of scars will diminish. The skin will look tighter and glow.

We use the latest advanced Medical Grade Lynton Laser, have over 20 years of Medical experience and 15 years of hands on Aesthetic experience. Our treatments are low risk and our customers' result are guaranteed and long lasting.

The number of treatments necessary varies from person to person. It is difficult to predict the exact number at the outset, as acne is a complicated body condition with physiological and psychological components. However, most patients achieve a significant reduction in the severity and frequency of outbreaks in 4-6 sessions.

Medical Grade Glycolic Peeling

If your acne lesions are shallow or flat, instead of IPL you may prefer more affordable options. These can include a combination of a course of 6 medical grade Glycolic Peels  with monthly maintenance thereafter and Ultrasonic Deep Skin Exfoliation treatments done twice a month. However, these option will not produce long-lasting results and are not effective for individuals with more sever scaring. IPL would be a better option in this instance, but can produce a better outcome if blended with Glycolic Peeling.

Microneedling for acne scarring

DERMAPEN  is another successful treatment for Acne Scarring offered in our clinic. The Dermapen® treatment can provide fantastic results,  improving the appearances of scars. The physical nature of “skin-needling” breaks up the fibrous, uneven scar tissue, and stimulates the growth of  healthier skin. Blood supply improves to the affected area, and new collagen and elastin are produced during the natural healing process. While each patient is different and conditions will vary, the typical therapy will consist of 3-6 treatments 4 weeks apart.

Dracula PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)

PRP is an exciting, proven skin regeneration method that involves using your own blood to correct acne scars on the skin.

The platelets in our blood can regrow collagen and elastin - the building blocks of young and healthy skin. When your own blood is injected back into your skin, the body naturally begins a healing process that helps significantly improve acne scarring. For best, long-lasting results, we often recommend to combine PRP  with Dermapen and as an add-on therapy to laser acne scar treatments.

Fractional Laser Resurfacing

Fractional laser skin resurfacing provides total rejuvenation. Following this treatment, your skin will have a smooth, youthful and glowing appearance. It is especially effective for individuals looking to improve the appearance of acne scarring and stretch marks.

The award-winning ResurFace® Fractional Er:YAG Laser delivers ablative treatments for dramatic rejuvenation results. This involves the application of heat directly to the skin in small, focused columns.

Our medical grade system is more intense than other types of non-ablative lasers. It also delivers very similar treatments results to the widely popular but more aggressive ablative CO2 laser. However, ResurFace® does not cause the same side effects and has a much shorter downtime than CO2 laser.

You will not be hustled or pushed into buying anything at your first consultation. It will provide the necessary information and build understanding of the treatment and the technology we use to assist you in making your own decision.

You can choose to go ahead with the treatments or have a cooling off period following the consultation.

We do not treat children under the age of sixteen. Older children can have these treatment at the Laserina Clinic only with a referral from their GP.
