The discussion on Loose Women this week touched on the promotion of Zumba classes to school girls as a means to fit into their prom dresses.
Be prefect for prom. Be perfect for a one-off event. We hear this message around Christmas time and other holidays – “get beach perfect body”. This message is rarely about being healthy or generally fit. It is not even about always looking good in your clothes, but only sometimes – on special occasions. The ladies were discussing the issues with the way such messages are interpreted by young women during puberty and how their perceptions can be affected for the rest of their lives. Many girls take these created feelings of being imperfect in body and mind into their adulthood and continue to suffer them. As a result a lot of people develop an addiction to exercise in an attempt to have a perfect body. Others suffer from eating disorders; and feelings of anxiety, stress and depression are also common with the associated low self-esteem. The tragedy is that it might be an unachievable dream and we cannot always adjust or change what nature has given us. The message should be that the healthy body is the perfect body.
It is despicable when a girl in her teens is a size 10 and thinks she is overweight. The message of getting beach ready might only be aimed at girls but boys are also very much influenced by the idea of a perfect shape.
The message of buying something to look a particular way is wrong. Looking good should be a healthy life-long commitment, not a one-off pursuit.
In our clinic we are very careful how we select our customers for slimming programmes. Our goal is to change your lifestyle not only through our treatments, but also by considering your diet and exercise routine – all in order to get healthier and fitter for life, and not just for Christmas. Of course, such a change is normally initially motivated by an important event or an upcoming holiday but we always try to educate our customers by trying to help them change their views on slimming.
Most of us want to be healthy, and we are all aware of the risks associated with being overweight, such as cardiovascular disease, unstable blood pressure and diabetes. However it’s also important to acknowledge that the ideal body image as presented by the media, is not healthy either. While it is unhealthy to be overweight, its also unhealthy to be underweight.
The message we have at our Clinic, is to be HEALTHY. We recognise the importance of loving yourself. Of course everyone is self-conscious with aspects of their image, but for us, it is important to embrace your natural self.
The perfect body… if we base the idea on the average model, this would require a height of 5’10” and a weight of only 8 1/2 stone. This would result in an unhealthy BMI which medical practitioner’s would class as “underweight”. Many people don’t realise that many models have been photo-shopped and touched up, and their bodies which we see, are not real at all, so we should not aspire to be like them.
A University in Canada has promoted the idea that rather than making food restrictions and weight loss the goal, we should aim to improve our health, understand what we are eating, enjoy physical activity and listen to our bodies.
It is important to point out that quick-fix diets do not lead to long term weight loss. It is more beneficial to eat what you want, but eat in moderation. Having slimming treatments from time to time will not work long term and will only give you a short term satisfaction with your image and shape. Although, our slimming packages and courses guarantee results but maintaining them is up to you.
There are lots of slimming treatments available on the market at the moment and it is very difficult and confusing at times to choose the right one. We need to remember that there is no miracle solution to instant weight or inch loss.
At the LASERINA clinic, we offer the most natural and completely non-invasive treatments, which will assist your goal with guaranteed results. Endermologie, Ultrasonic Liposuction or even simple Inch Loss Body Wraps in a course or combination of treatments will help you to achieve stable, long lasting inch and weight loss without killing yourself in the GYM or starving on a strict diet.
